Starts don't come much worse than they did for Manchester United in the Mancunian derby at Old Trafford.

United had high hopes coming into this match on the back of two successive competitive wins but they found themselves one goal down after just over 40 seconds.

David Silva had seen a good run blocked, the ball came to Samir Nasri who hit the post and from the rebound there was Edin Dzeko to tap home for his 19th goal of the campaign.

United needed to change something even at this early stage and manager David Moyes made a switch with Juan Mata moving inside and Tom Cleverley going out to the right.

Man U's best chance arrived in the 40th minute when - from a Rafael cross - Wayne Rooney miskicked and then Mata fired over the bar when he should have hit the target.

Four players have been booked - City's Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho as well as Utd's Danny Welbeck and Marouane Fellaini.
