Liverpool have condemned Manchester United to their ninth league defeat of the season.
And while 3-0 may seem like a hammering, it could have been far worse.
Steven Gerrard made it 1-0 from the penalty spot after 34 minutes after Rafael handled the ball inside his own box. But despite already being on a yellow card, the ref decided not to take any further action.
Gerrard scored his, and Liverpool's second from the penalty spot once again. This time, Phil Jones was at fault as he brought down Joe Allen.
Nemanja Vidic was then given his second yellow card with 13 minutes remaining, which gave Gerrard the opportunity to score a hat-trick of penalties. But after a long wait, the Liverpool legend struck the bottom of the post with his effort.
Luis Suarez wrapped up the points as he pounced on a Sturridge effort and swept it around David De Gea in the 84th minute.
Liverpool are now up to second in the table, and trail Chelsea by four points with a game in hand.
United are now 12 points off the Champions League places.
