Failure to beat Northampton at home in week four of the Heineken Cup has come back to bite Leinster, as they have now been handed an incredibly tough draw for this years quarter finals.
Matt O'Connor's men will now have to travel to reigning champions Toulon.
The Boys in Blue did everything they could this week as they picked up a bonus point win at home to the Ospreys at the RDS on Friday night. But they needed other results to go their way if they were to secure a home tie in the last eight.
Munster finally knocked them out of the top four this afternoon, after they beat Edinburgh at Thomand Park by 38-6 and scored six tries along the way and guaranteed a home tie for their last eight clash.
And with just the Pool 4 games to be played, it looked as though Munster would face Leinster at Thomand in a mouthwatering tie.
The only stipulation that could change that, would be if Clermont Auvergne scored four tries and beat Racing Metro.
And with just 20 minutes remaining, Clermont had only two tries in the bag. But in the rain, and on a heavy pitch, the 2013 finalists crossed the white line twice more and ensured that they would be bring a team to the Stade Marcel Michelin.
So the quarter finals of the Heineken Cup are....
Ulster at home to Premiership league leaders Saracens.
Toulon vs Leinster.
Munster take on Toulouse at Thomond Park.
And Clermont are up against the Leicester Tigers.
Those games will take place over the first weekend of April.
