Fortunately for us, Dave McIntyre and Kevin Kilbane didn't lose their voices while celebrating James McClean's winning goal in Cardiff.

But it may well have been a close run thing as they let their joy out en route to Ireland beating Wales 1-0 and qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup playoffs and within another stage of making it to Russia next summer.

As everyone got their breathes back, Kevin made sure to heap praise on one of the members of the Irish rearguard who held out as Wales pressed.

"It's one of the best performances you'll ever see from a centre half from Shane Duffy tonight," he said.

"I know James McClean was superb tonight but Shane Duffy, honest to God, what a performance from him tonight. Amazing, amazing performance."

Kevin was also impressed by the way McClean finished off his goal with his weaker foot as well as praising the players who helped construct that key moment.

"Jeff Hendrick was just superb for the goal as well though. He didn't give up," he said.

"One thing noticeable about the goal. He got through so much ground. The ball then kind of spurted up in the air. He read it quickly and then knock it down the line and we ourselves thought we might be running out of play. I think Ashley Williams did that himself.

"Got the ball and then I think it was Arter with the run across the near post and then the little dummy and then when it's come to McClean, what a strike. What a moment. What a moment that was. Amazing!"
