Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane didn't hold back in his criticism of the current squad. The Ireland assistant had some harsh words for defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, insisting it would have been no surprise if Roy Hodgson didn't pick them for England’s World Cup squad this week.
Keane also said Michael Carrick could have no complaints about being left out of the 23, and blamed United chief executive Ed Woodward for the club's collapse under David Moyes. Rio Ferdinand became the final United player from the Keane era to leave Old Trafford, with the 35-year-old believing he was denied the chance " to say goodbye the way I would have liked ". But Keane had no sympathy, saying: " He didn’t have a chance to say goodbye? You can say goodbye on Twitter, can’t you? "
Keane believes Louis van Gaal would be a good fit for the Manchester United job and van Gaal's expected to be named United boss this week. The Dutch coach is at a pre-World Cup training camp with Holland but has a day off today so it's believed he'll meet with Ryan Giggs to discuss his future at United. Some reports suggest Giggs wants to keep playing for the club as he'd also like to be part of van Gaal's coaching team.
