Undisputed world lightweight boxing champion Katie Taylor is among six nominees for the BBC World Sport Star award for 2020.

Voting is open to UK residents for the gong, which has a shortlist of Taylor, Basketball star LeBron James, golfer Dustin Johnson, footballer Wendie Renard, UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov and pole vaulter Armand Duplantis.

Katie Taylor is the current holder of the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO belts.

The 2012 Olympic champion defended her titles with a hard-fought win over Delfine Persoon in August, before an easier victory came her way against Miriam Gutierrez last month.

LeBron James guided the LA Lakers to victory at the NBA Finals, Johnson won the Masters, Duplantis broke the world pole vault record twice in a week in February, lightweight champ Nurmagomedov retired after extending his unbeaten record in the Octagon to 29 and Renard captained Lyon to their fifth successive Champions League title.

Voting closes at Noon on Tuesday 15th December.

An Irish sportsperson has never won this award, which used to be branded as the Overseas Sports Personality of the Year.

However, Clones born Barry McGuigan won the main prize - the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award - back in 1985.

The world sports star winner will be announced at the 2020 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards on Sunday, December 20th.
