Real Madrid man Gareth Bale is Manchester United’ top transfer target.
Jose Mourinho is eager to make his 4th signing of the summer and he has reportedly urged the club’s Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward, to get his man.
United take on the European champions in the Super Cup tonight.
Speaking on the eve of that game Mourinho said he would do all he could to bring Bale to Manchester:
"Well if he's playing tomorrow, no I wouldn't think of (signing Bale) because it would show he's in the coach’s plans and the club's plans and he also has that motivation to continue at Real Madrid."
"If he is not in the club's plans, that the arrival of another player would mean he was on his way out, I will try to be waiting for him on the other side and fight with other coaches that would want him on their team.
"But if he plays tomorrow, that is the best confirmation that he is still wanted by the team."
Mourinho has captured three of the four transfer targets he identified at the end of last season.
Nemanja Matic arrived earlier in August following the addition of Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof. Reports suggest Mourinho is also eager to bolster his squad with a winger.
"The plan is to have a good squad, not to have a good team, it's to have a good squad with options and we have important players injured for a long time.
"They are going to be back just by the end of the year, so our squad is not so big and we need options, we need different players.
"The squad is good and, as I told a few months ago, I was hoping for four players to improve the squad and the club did a fantastic job, absolutely fantastic, by getting three of them, which is difficult in the crazy market where we are now.
"To get three out of four, I thank the club for that. I would be happier if they gave me four of four but they did a great effort for me."
