Jordan Henderson out until at least April following groin surgery

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will miss a significant run of games after undergoing successful groin surgery.

The midfielder picked up the injury in last weekend's Merseyside derby against Everton and the club has confirmed he will be out of action until after the international break at the end of March.

The 30-year-old will be monitored by the club's medical department to see when he can return to training.

Henderson is to miss the upcoming Premier League games against Sheffield United, Chelsea, Fulham and Wolves, the Champions League last-16 return leg with RB Leipzig, and England's World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

It's been a wretched season on the injury front for Liverpool, who are currently without defenders Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Van Dijk's absence has been the most keenly felt after he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury against Everton back in October.

Henderson has been playing as a makeshift centre back in recent weeks.

Last season's champions are currently sixth in the Premier League table.
