Dublin manager Jim Gavin has declared James McCarthy fit for their All Ireland quarter-final clash with Donegal at Croke Park on Saturday.
The Ballymun Kickhams defender missed the Leinster Senior Football Championship final win over Westmeath as the Dubs ran out 2-19 to 0-10 winners as they claimed the provincial title for the 6th year in a row.
Eric Lowndes deputised for the defender, but the St. Peregrines man was withdrawn at half-time with Ciaran Kilkenny being switched to the half-back line.
McCarthy suffered an injury in training, Gavin told reporters after the game that it was a knock to the quad, but reports emerged that it was more serious than first feared.
McCarthy was believed to have suffered medial ligament damage that could’ve spelled the end of his season.
Gavin revealed today that McCarthy had a scan on his knee to assess the damage, but they got the all clear and the talented defender returned to training this week:
