The Republic of Ireland women lost 3-1 to Russia at Tallaght Stadium last night in their World Cup qualifier. Sue Ronan's side got off to the worst possible start conceding goals to Ekaterina Sochneva and Ekaterina Pantyukhina in the opening fifteen minutes. Fiona O’Sullivan did pull one back for Ireland but Pantyukhina grabbed her second just before half time and Ireland failed to trouble the Russians in the second half. The result means second place Russia are five points ahead of Ireland in Group 1.
