The interview process for the vacant Dublin Senior Hurling Manager position will begin next week, according the chairman of the County Board.

Speaking at the Applegreen Kilmacud Hurling 7's launch yesterday, Sean Shanley said a management meeting had taken place on Monday night, where a three person committee were tasked with interviewing candidates who the county board have been told are interested in the role.

The County chairman is hopeful a manager will be in place before the local championship recommences stressing how important it is that they get "the right man" for the job.

"Experienced, that's the main thing. Naturally, if we had a Dublin player, but there been no Dublin player in an All-Ireland final for a long time. so that's not there. Hopefully someone who knows Dublin hurling and has been involved, but then again has that bit of inter-county experience to know what it's all about".

"It's very difficult for a man to start from scratch, if he wasn't involved in Dublin he'd have to pick selectors who do know the scene and point him in the right direction. Ideally, a man that has been involved in Dublin for a while".

Shanley is hopeful that Ger Cunningham's successor could see the return of exiled players, as well as the younger players who have broken into the panel "There's lots of young players in there now, and there was a few who haven't played in the last year or two. Hopefully they'll be back. I would like to think everyone who's wanted for Dublin will be willing to put on a shirt".
