Chris Hughton replaces sacked Sabri Lamouchi at Forest

Chris Hughton has taken over at Nottingham Forest after the Championship club sacked Sabri Lamouchi.

Forest sit second from bottom in the Championship having lost each of their first four matches of the season.

News of Hughton's appointment followed immediately after the news of Lamouchi's departure.

Luke Freeman's goal in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Bristol City was their first and only goal of the campaign so far.

Former France international Lamouchi took up the reins at the City Ground in June 2019 after Martin O'Neill's disastrous return to the club.

Forest appeared bound for the playoffs before COVID-19 saw the 2019-20 Championship season grind to a halt. The two-time European Cup winners won just twice following football's resumption.

A 4-1 defeat at home to Stoke City on the final day of the season was the final nail in their playoff hopes.

Lamouchi had been very active in the transfer market, bringing in Republic of Ireland internationals Harry Arter and Cyrus Christie (on loan from Fulham).

However, the poor start to their season has seen his contract terminated with immediate effect.

Former Norwich and Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is among the early favourites to succeed Lamouchi at the City Ground.

He's been out of work since leaving Brighton & Hove Albion in May 2019.

However, the former Republic of Ireland manager has exceptional Championship pedigree, leading both Newcastle and Brighton to promotion during his spells in charge.
