Graeme Souness believes Liverpool are on the cusp of a decade of trophy glory.

The Liverpool legend was speaking to Off The Ball's Maire Treasa Ni Cheallaigh at the Virgin Media Sports Breakfast Briefing and is surprised that the club are playing down their chances this season.

"I'm slightly surprised that they're not playing up their potential to win something. It's all about, 'we're not ready, we're not ready', when I think they are ready," he said.

"I think they've got a really good team and a squad as well, not just a starting XI so I can see them coming close if not winning something this year."

Citing new goalkeeper Allison, who he regards as "the real deal" and greater midfield options like Naby Keita, Souness is confident that they are much improved.

"So I think Liverpool are particularly strong but I emphasise, not just the starting XI. They've got some strength in depth now.

"When you look at them, I think this could be the start of a decade where they could be winning trophies on a regular basis."

Asked for his prediction on who he expects to see in the Champions League final next May, he tipped Liverpool to return to the showpiece and also feels Manchester City will join them there.
