Liverpool legend Graeme Souness believes Paul Pogba's suspension for the Manchester derby is a blessing in disguise for Manchester United.
They take on Manchester City on Sunday without the French midfielder but Souness has doubts about his role in the United engine room as he told us tonight.
"I think Matic would be their main man if you were picking Man United's midfield, I think he's the first name he'd have in there in central midfield anyway," he said.
"I think Man United have got quite lucky by him not playing at the weekend. I think they'll play Herrera in there I would imagine to get around their midfield and although [Pogba] carries a bigger goal threat, on the other side of the coin, when they're going to be asked to defend and have to be solid, I don't think he does that very well. I think Herrera will do that better than him.
"They're certainly more of a goal threat when Pogba's in the team but in terms of if you're on the back foot and you're looking to nick the game, he's not your man to be in the team, for me."
Souness also is unsure how to define Pogba as a midfield player or the extent of his contribution at either end of the field.
"I'm not sure what type of midfield player he is. He's not a holding midfield player. He's got three goals this year and six assists I think it is - I know he was out injured for a bit - but that's not enough. I played with guys who got 20 goals every year. If he's an attacking midfield player playing for Man United, in a good team that's the kind of numbers he should be looking at," he said.
