Stephen Gerrard is out for four to six weeks after straining his hamstring against West Ham last weekend.
The Liverpool captain picked up the injury after taking a shot during their 4-1 win over the Hammers at Anfield.
The injury couldn't come at a worse time for the Reds as they enter a vital part of the Premier League season.
Liverpool play Spurs away on Sunday, and also face Manchester City and Chelsea before the end of December.
Daniel Sturridge will also be missing for the rest of month with an ankle injury.
England captain Gerrard has played in each of the Anfield club's 15 top-flight games this season and has scored three goals.
He has also provided six assists, which is equal with Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil as the most in the Premier League so far this season.
