Gabon chief wants Arsenal's Aubameyang to seek a "more ambitious club"

The president of the Gabon Football Association is urging Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave Arsenal.

Last season's joint-top Premier League scorer's contract at the Emirates will expire in the summer of 2021, though Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen to keep the striker at the club.

Pierre Alain Mounguengui says Aubameyang should seek a move to "a more ambitious" club if he's to secure trophies.

"Right now, he's at Arsenal, and he's won nothing here, so it's a collective failing," he told ESPN.

"I don't want to say that Arsenal aren't ambitious, but Arsenal don't have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned."

The 30-year-old has been linked with moves to Barcelona and Inter Milan this summer and Mounguengui feels he'd be well suited to either side:

"If Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he'd definitely find his place there.

"All Gabonese people see Aubameyang at this level, where he can now end his career at a major club and, above all, beyond individual trophies, to bring home a major competition.

"On an individual level, we all consider him to be among the best players in the world, but the advice I give to him is to continue to work and to attract the attention of the biggest clubs and the most ambitious clubs."
