Five Irish players nominated for European Player of the Year

Five Irish players are in the running to be crowned the EPCR's European Player of the Year.

Leinster are the only side to have three players nominated, with Caelan Doris, Jimmy O'Brien and Josh Van Der Flier all receiving the nod.

O'Brien became the first player to score four tries for the province in a European game in last month's 64-7 hammering of Bath.

Michael Lowry's outstanding displays in Ulster's backline have earned him a place among the 15 nominees.

Munster back row Jack O'Donoghue is also rewarded with a place in the list.

He has scored in two of their Champions Cup games so far this season and was Player of the Match in their memorable win over Wasps.

The 15 nominees will be whittled down to five players in May, with voting for the winner to conclude following the Champions Cup final.

The voting process is a combination of a public vote and the verdict of a panel of experts, including former Ireland and Munster star Alan Quinlan.

The winner receives the Anthony Foley Memorial Trophy.
