Filippo Giovagnoli has been appointed as the permanent manager of Dundalk, following their FAI Cup success on Sunday.

The 50-year-old Italian has been given the job full-time, having been in charge on an interim basis since replacing Vinny Perth in August.

Under Giovagnoli, Dundalk secured qualification for the Europa League group stage for the second time in their history, and while they had to watch Shamrock Rovers take their league title they capped off their season with silverware, beating Rovers 4-2 (aet) in the FAI Cup final on Sunday.

Giovagnoli's first game as permanent manager will be this Thursday, when Arsenal visit the Aviva Stadium in the final game of their European campaign, and the final game of their season.

However, Dundalk are yet to reveal the length of the Italian coach's contract.

"I am delighted to sign this contract that makes my position at Dundalk permanent," Giovagnoli said.

"It is an honour to defend the colours of this amazing town and I will do my best to keep the club successful over the coming years because that is what our fans deserve."

"When we returned to Dundalk with the FAI Cup on Sunday night I was able to see how amazing our fans are and I am hoping to see them soon at Oriel Park where they will be able to fight with us. C’mon the Town!"

It's believed former Northern Ireland international Jim Magilton will also join the club as Director of Football, to work alongside Giovagnoli.

Giovagnoli's assistant coach Giuseppe Rossi and first-team manager Shane Keegan have both also agreed new deals at the club.
