Dublin GAA chiefs will not begin the search for a new hurling manager until next month.
98FM Sport has been told by the Dublin county board that no talks have been held with any individual about the vacant post.
A flurry of bets on Pat Gilroy forced one bookmaker to suspend betting on the former football boss taking the small ball role.
The St Vincents clubman led the Boys in Blue to All Ireland glory in 2011, ending a 16 year wait to lift Sam Maguire at the time.
He cited increased work commitments as part of the reason for his decision to step down from the post after the All Ireland SFC semi-final defeat to Mayo in 2012.
Dublin County Board chairman Sean Shanley told 98FM Sport that he was surprised to learn that Gilroy had become the front runner for the post:
“It came out of left field, the first I heard of it was when a couple of journalists called to ask about the reports yesterday.”
“We haven’t talked to anyone yet, the process will start soon and hopefully we’ll have someone in place by September.”
