It was confirmed today that Malahide Cricket Club will host Ireland's very first Test match next May.

Stormont and Clontarf were the other two venues mentioned but Cricket Ireland have opted for the north county Dublin venue for the visit of Pakistan.

The historic Test match will mark Ireland's first as a full member of the International Cricket Council.

“We are delighted that Malahide has agreed to host this historic game against Pakistan,” Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom said this afternoon.

“Even in its short history of hosting our matches, the club has already given us some wonderful memories, and we trust that May 11th and its ensuing days will provide many more.”

The chairman of Malahide CC, Ciaran Keohane expressed his delighted at hosting the event next spring.

"We are looking forward to welcoming both teams to The Village. This is a great showcase not only for Irish cricket, but for Malahide and the wider Fingal area.”

Cricket Ireland finally achieved its long term goal of achieving Test status late last June.

The historic decision was taken at the ICC Conference at the Oval in London with both Ireland and Afghanistan confirmed as the 11th and 12th Full Member countries in the top echelons of world cricket.

Tickets for the match will go sale on Ticketmaster www.ticketmaster.ie from 10am tomorrow - Wednesday November 22nd while hospitality for this momentous day will also go on sale tomorrow, see www.CricketIreland.ie for more information.
