Dessie Farrell set to steer a ship in good condition - Jim Gavin

Jim Gavin has backed Dessie Farrell to be a success as Dublin's senior football manager and feels that the panel is in good shape heading into the 2020 campaign.

Having managed the Dubs to All-Irelands at minor and under-21 level, Farrell has succeeded the five-in-a-row All-Ireland winning boss who stepped down last month.

Gavin told Dubs TV that he feels the panel are well placed to continue winning titles under their new manager:

"I think we are content that the ship is in reasonable condition and Dessie Farrell is no doubt going to give it a lick of paint and probably refresh the crew and that is part of the process.

"I look forward to see it go onto the high seas again and I'll be up there standing shoulder to shoulder with our great support and cheering the boys on.

"I've had a phenomenal time with the guys. It's been a great journey, great fun, great memories.

"It was a particularly memorable this year, with the guys closing the deal in the second game against Kerry.

"I go away with some sadness that I won't have those days on the sideline hearing our great support. Anytime I meet anybody there's a great gratitude amongst the supporters for what the players do, but it really works both ways.

"It means a lot to the players, the support we get from our fans. It means a lot to me as well."
