Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt is set to join Juventus after his club Ajax confirmed their captain won't be going on their summer tour to Austria pending "a possible transfer".

Ajax released a short statement to confirm that "awaiting a possible transfer, Matthijs de Ligt does not travel with the group."

Italian champions Juventus lodged an improved offer for the 19-year-old yesterday and the clubs are now working out the finer details of the transfer.

Maurizio Sarri's side will pay 75-million Euro for de Ligt with Ajax hoping to receive most of that fee up-front, while Juve are keen for a deal with installments.

The player's agent Mino Raiola revealed this week that personal terms have already been agreed with the Old Lady and that PSG, Manchester United and Juventus are out of the race for his signature.

“Agreements have been made with Matthijs and it is up to Ajax how the club wants to deal with this.”

De Ligt is Ajax's youngest ever captain and he skippered them to a domestic double and on a run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Ajax have already signed defenders Kik Pierie and Lisandro Martinez in a bid to offset de Ligt's departure.
