Davy Fitzgerald has ruled out a surprise switch from Wexford to Dublin.

The Clare native has yet to commit to the Slaneysiders for 2018.

He guided them to promotion to division 1A of the Allianz League, the Leinster final and the All Ireland quarter final in his first year in charge.

The Irish Independent report that while Davy Fitz is yet to make a decision on his future - he did rule out leaving Wexford to take another inter-county job.

“I could end up with my club next year. I don’t know what the story is.

“I’m not thinking of another county or another club at the moment.

“The only people I will be talking to over the next three or four weeks will be Wexford. I'm going to just sit down and have a chat at home, then have a chat with them.

“As I've said, I love dealing with the county board. Not an issue in the world with them.

“So we’ll sit down and discuss it, but from Clare to Wexford isn’t a straight forward spin that you could have three or four times a week.

“But let’s see what happens.”

When asked directly if he would consider a switch to Dublin Fitzgerald said: “You can't talk about things like that. At the moment I'm the Wexford manager - I told them I need a small bit of time.

“There's a few personal things I just want to sort out. Like, when you're sitting into the car at 1 o'clock and you've people at home that care about you, and you're not getting home until 1 o'clock in the morning.

“That's how long a trip it is, it's 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours. I've other people that I've to consider as well. We'll sit down and see what the story is.

“I haven't thought about anything else. I loved what I did last year, without a shadow of a doubt.

“But there are times you're made aware of certain situations that you might have to think about other people. There's different things have to be considered, that's all I'll say.

“Some clowns out there are going on that you're looking to do this or to do that, but I love where I'm at. My heart loves what I'm doing.

“Listen, the next few weeks I'll sort that out and there won't be a problem. I could not say enough about how I feel there.”
