West Ham earned a creditable draw at Tottenham last night and one player that naturally caught our eye during our live commentary of the game was Ireland youngster Declan Rice.

The West Ham defender impressed in a composed performance at the back and after full time, Hammers boss David Moyes spoke to our Nathan Murphy about the player's development and attitude.

"I think Declan, when I came, was always close to it. He'd played a couple of games and I think he's improved. He's come off the bench a couple of times and to be fair he made one or two mistakes," he said.

"He made a mistake at Manchester City which may have cost us a draw up there but I like him. He's got a great attitude, committed and I think he'll get better because he's a really good boy to work with, he wants to improve and he's keen to hear what he should be doing better. So we've enjoyed it. I thought he played really well tonight."

Before Pedro Obiang's long range strike to give West Ham the lead deep into the second half, the Hammers hadn't registered a shot on target. But Moyes was not overly concerned given the standard of opposition they were facing in the shape of Spurs.

"That's the team that beat Real Madrid 3-1 so you shouldn't be surprised that we only had one shot and you shouldn't be surprised the way we played and I think maybe you shouldn't be surprised we took a point because we came close against Man City, we beat Chelsea, drew with Arsenal so you've got to say we're doing one part of it right," he said.

"We'd like to do the other side of it much better obviously but I'm the coach and I have to try to find a way of getting points with the players we have available to us."
