World number one Michael van Gerwen is out of the PDC World Darts Championship at the quarter-final stage following a shock 5-0 loss to Dave Chisnall.

Eighth seed Chisnall has lost his last 28 meetings with the Dutchman but produced the performance of his life to register a whitewash victory at the Alexandra Palace.

Chizzy produced an average of 107 and threw 14 180s to upset MVG and set up a semi-final clash tonight against Gary Anderson.

"I'm so proud. I've been practising well, I've been playing well I'd say for the last three, four weeks. I have put the effort in. I changed my points to a little bit smaller," Chisnall said on Sky Sports Darts after the match,

"I was confident against Dimitri Van Den Burgh and this morning when I woke up I was confident again, just sitting in my hotel room watching the TV.

"I want it more than anybody else does. I know my own ability, I know I'm playing well. I can win this.

"I've been under the radar for the last few years but I want this World Championship title and I know I am playing well enough to win it,

Derry's Daryl Gurney lost 5-4 to second seed Gerwyn Price in their last-eight clash. Former rugby player Price will now face Stephen Bunting in the semi-finals.
