Darren O'Dea has joined growing calls for Wes Hoolahan to be included in the Republic of Ireland starting XI.

The Norwich playmaker was left out of the disappointing 1-1 draw with Georgia.

O'Dea - who won 20 caps for his country - feels Hoolahan should start for the must win game with Serbia tomorrow:

“I think Wes is different than a lot of the Irish players technically and if you’re looking at keeping the ball and retaining possession he’d be trusted more to play at home.

“I think he could be a difference maker; I’d be in favour of him starting as well I think he gives us that something extra that might be the difference between winning and losing the game.”

Jeff Hendrick could return for the Republic of Ireland's make or break World Cup qualifier with Serbia.

The midfielder missed the 1-1 draw with Georgia with a quad strain. He came through a session with the FAI medical team yesterday with no issues.

He will be assessed later today. The Republic of Ireland will be back training in Abbotstown on Monday, ahead of tomorrow's crucial World Cup Qualifier against Serbia.

It is a must win encounter for the Boys in Green, following Saturday's disappointing draw in Georgia.

Serbia beat Moldova at the weekend, to move two points ahead of Ireland at the top of the qualification group.
