Crystal Palace set to appoint Lucien Favre as their new manager

Crystal Palace are close to appointing Lucien Favre as their new head coach.

The South London club are seeking a replacement for Roy Hodgson, who quit at the end of last season.

Swiss native Favre has been out of work following his sacking by Borussia Dortmund in December 2020.

A 5-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart proved his final game in charge at Dortmund, when the club dipped outside of the Bundesliga's top-4.

Prior to his spell at Dortmund, Favre led Nice to Champions League qualification in 2016-17 after they finished third in Ligue 1.

Palace had appeared close to handing Nuno Espirito Santo the reins at Selhurst Park. However, a disagreement over backroom team budgets put paid to the former Wolves manager's chances of returning to work with the Premier League club.

It's reported that a three-year deal has been agreed to bring Favre to Palace.

All that needs clearing is for the 63-year old to receive the necessary work permit.

One of his primary tasks at Palace will be to build a new squad. Palace have more than a dozen players out of contract this summer, including Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy.
