Manchester City have had a bid of €44 million for Nathan Ake accepted by Bournemouth and Pep Guardiola's side are also close to signing Spanish winger Ferran Torres.
Bournemouth were relegated from the Premier League but Ake was set to leave regardless, amid interest from other clubs.
The 25-year-old Netherlands international joined Bournemouth from Chelsea in 2017 and has made 121 appearances for the Cherries.
City finished 18 points behind champions Liverpool with the heart of the City defence identified as one area they could improve on.
City were the top scorers in the most Premier League season and only Liverpool had a better defensive record than them but Guardiola was short of cover in defence when Aymeric Laporte was ruled out for most of the season through injury.
Ake has also being linked with a move to back to Chelsea but it appears City have secured the deal.
City are also expected to announce the arrival of Ferran Torres from Valenica in the next week as Guardiola looks to fill the void left by Leroy Sane.
Sane played a total of 11 minutes in the league last season due to a knee injury he sustained in the Community Shield almost a year ago but Torres will give City another option in attack.
The 20-year-old will cost in the region of €27 million and has already agreed personal terms,
City want to get their business done early because there is less of a break between seasons and they could do without any distractions when they return to Champions League action next month.
