Liverpool will be without Joel Matip for the Champions League quarter-final, first-leg clash with Manchester City.
The defender is set to miss the rest of the season as well and will likely require an operation to correct a thigh problem, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The Cameroonian sustained the injury during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Matip finished the game but afterwards needed medical attention which revealed a thigh problem that will require surgery.
The club say that the operation is likely to end the 26-year-old’s involvement in the remainder of the 2017-18 season.
