There was disappointment for both Arsenal and Liverpool last night in the Champions League.
The Gunners threw away a 3 goal lead at home to Anderlecht, as they managed to come away with just a point.
Goals from Mikel Arteta, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had given Arsenal a handsome lead by the hour mark.
But the Belgians fought back with three goals in the last half-hour- two from Anthony Vanden Borre and an injury time equaliser from Aleksandar Mitrovic , to draw the game 3-3.
Manager Arsene Wenger was very disappointed with the result- "We had a poor defensive performance from the first until the last minute. We never looked comfortable and we got punished," said Wenger. “It is very disappointing. We were very poor."
That result means Arsenal's hopes of topping the group are all but over.
They are second, 5 points behind Borussia Dortmund, who beat Galatasary 4-1 last night.
Meanwhile, a second string Liverpool side came away from their away tie against Real Madrid with nothing.
They lost 1-0 away in a battling performance against the European Champions.
Karim Benzema's first half goal was the winner, which saw Real reach the knockout stages.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers fielded a second string side, with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli all starting from the bench.
There were reports that the changes were made with Rodgers having one eye on Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.
But the Liverpool boss refuted that, insisting: "I didn't rest players for Saturday. I picked a team that I thought could get a result. The players that came in were excellent and we were unfortunate not to get a result."
Liverpool are now third in their group, after Basel thrashed Ludogorets 4-0.
