Joe Schmidt named his starting XV to face Scotland and in terms of changes, they were relatively limited which just two.

With Ireland aiming to get past the penultimate step leading to a Six Nations Grand Slam, Andy Dunne and the Irish Independent's Ruaidhri O'Connor joined us on Thursday Night Rugby and the question of style came up, including whether Schmidt should allow the players more free rein in attack.

Dunne made a comparison to another sporting code and another era when the style question was especially evident and debated upon.

"When you think back to Jack Charlton's sides of the early '90s and late '80s, it was littered with talent but they played route one football and hit it up to Niall Quinn and Cascarino and there are a lot of parallels where we look at the Irish [rugby] team now," he said, adding that in both cases, we do enjoy the tangible successes delivered by both.

"But it's a team that's littered with talent and I think it's a team that could be a better attacking side than we currently are and also I think we can be a better defensive side because of that.

"Because you spend less time bludgeoning in attack. You're probably fresher and sharper in defence also. I suppose it's a stylistic thing and no one's going to care about it if we go and win the Grand Slam.

"To me really, if we go to the next World Cup and we get a similar result with the personnel we have, it's going to be deemed to be a failure overall but I'd love to just see a bit more freedom."
