It was a good night- for the most part- for Irish players last night in the Capital One Cup fourth round.

Jon Walters struck a stunning goal, as Stoke got past holders Chelsea last night.

Check out his wonderstrike below:

That goal put Stoke ahead, before Loic Remy levelled for Chelsea in injury time.

However, Stoke went through to the quarter finals after winning the penalty shootout 5-4- Eden Hazard missing the crucial spot kick.

Elsewhere, David Meyler struck the winning penalty for Hull City, as they also beat Leicester City 5-4 on penalties.

Their game also ended 1-1 after extra time.

Riyad Mahrez’s penalty was saved by Hull ‘keeper Eldin Jakupovic, before Meyler struck the winning penalty, to send Hull into the quarter finals for the first time in their history.

And it was a mixed night for the Irish at Goodison Park.

Darron Gibson started his first game since March- and he scored a penalty- as Everton got past Norwich 4-3 on spot kicks.

Gibson has been struggling with injury, but played 120 minutes, as the Toffees reached the last eight.

It’s a big boost to Martin O'Neill, as he prepares to announce his provisional squad later today for the Euro 2016 play-off with Bosnia next month.

James McCarthy also played the full match, as did Wes Hoolahan for Norwich.

However, Hoolahan missed a spot kick in the shootout.
