After yet another year of toing and froing over whether or not to show the All Ireland football final on big screens it has been decided this weekend's game will be screened in Smithfield.

Dublin are hoping to make it five wins in a row, when they take on Kerry this weekend at Croke Park.

Despite tickets increasing in price, the stadium is completely sold-out leaving scores of fans looking for somewhere else to soak up the atmosphere.

Since the Boys in Blue secured their place in the final, suggestions have been made as to where the clash could be screened in the city.

Some suggested Parnell Park, the Dubs' training ground, should be opened up for a family fun day with a cover charge that would go to charity.

In the end, Dublin City Council decided that it will show the match on big screens in Smithfield.

Local Councillor, Nial Ring, said it will be "a great opportunity for those who can't get a ticket and want to be part of the Dubs making history".

The Smithfield screening will be a family friendly, alcohol free event.

Former Lord Mayor Christy Burke complained that, each year the Dubs make it into the football final, there is confusion as to whether or not to have an outdoor screening of the game for fans.

He suggested plans should be laid earlier in the season.

This year's delay is being blamed on concerns Electric Picnic, which is also on this weekend, would be using up most of the available security personnel.

"This has been sorted and all that remains is putting up the screen", Councillor Ring said.
