For the first time in 2021, all shops will be open from today.

Shops have been closed since New Year's Eve as part of Level 5 restrictions due to COVID-19.

However, non-essential retail will be opening their doors in full today - 5 months after being shut.

Last week, they were able to reopen for click-and-collect or shopping-by-appointment.

Penneys took advantage of that, saying over 275,000 appointments were made at its stores around the country.

"It's been a long winter and now we're heading towards Summer and it's great that we're now reopening," said CEO of Dublin Town, Richard Guiney.

"Shops have been closed for some time but now people can come back into the city and do some shopping so that's very pleasing."

Meanwhile, IKEA will have queue wardens in place at its Ballymun store.

They're anticipating a large number of people hoping to visit the store from today.

The shop’s UK and Ireland chief executive Peter Jelkeby,  says they want customers to feel safe:

"We welcome them back, we're happy to have them back," he said.

"We invested a lot in safety and queue management."

"We're going to have a capacity control of how many customers can be in the store at one time," he added.
