Seven new lightboxes have been installed in the Docklands.
Dublin City Council says the aim is to animate the area and enhance people’s experience of the Docklands.
The boxes contain old photos showing how the area has evolved over generations of history.
Four are located on North Wall Quay and three are on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, and they light up for six to eight hours once it gets dark outside.
The photos came from Dublin City Libraries collection which contains thousands of images which showcase the history of the city.
Simon Clarke, Administrative Officer, Events Section, says: "The boxes are 1.8metres high, use solar powered light, require no cabling, are reusable, and once it gets dark will light up for 6-8 hours. It’s a great way of promoting the history and vibrancy of the Docklands area."
This initiative, which began in June of this year when 10 Light Boxes were installed in Smithfield, is being done on a trial basis. If successful it may become a permanent addition to both these areas and may also be trialled in other parts of the City.
