A teenage boy has been taken from the River Liffey in Dublin.

Rescue swimmers were involved in the operation at around 7am at Usher's Quay while firefighters from Phibsborough and Tara Street stations also attended along with Gardaí.

It's unclear how he ended up in the water.

In a statement Gardaí say he was taken to hospital:

"Gardaí attended the scene of an incident that occurred at approximately 7am on Thursday 24th October 2019 at Ushers Quay, Dublin 8. It's understood a male youth was rescued from the River Liffey. He was taken to St James' Hospital with non-life threatening injuries."

They say enquiries are ongoing.
