Temporary changes that restrict car use in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown (DLR) area should be encouraged, according to a new report.
The study by TU Dublin considered Covid-19 pilot changes to traffic in Blackrock Village and DLR's coastal mobility route from Blackrock to Sandycove.
It's recommended connecting missing links along the coastal track but says more study on it's impact is needed according to the Irish Times.
The report also recommends a permanent public realm regeneration plan for Blackrock main street and surrounding streets. Work began in June 2020 to make the village one-way.
A lane of traffic was removed, and sections of on-street parking were reallocated on a temporary basis to create more room for walkers and cyclists.
While the coastal track was also introduced that provides a two-way segregated cycle-lane over 3.6km from Newtown Avenue in Blackrock to Coal Quay Bridge, and from Queen’s Road to the Forty Foot in Sandycove.
