Six South American countries are the last states to be removed from Ireland's Mandatory Hotel Quarantine list.
The Minister for Health announced today that Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, and Peru have all been removed, effective immediately.
This comes as the MHQ system, which was first introduced in March 2021, has been scaled down over recent months with most countries being removed.
At the system's peak, 60 states were on the list and over 10,000 people have entered the system since it began, with eight hotels being used at its peak.
593 people tested positive for Covid-19 while in MHQ.
Although there is no longer a requirement for any travellers to quarantine in a hotel, all relevant travel regulations still apply.
This includes a pre-travel PCR test unless fully vaccinated and the requirement for home based quarantine if travelling from certain countries.
Stephen Donnelly said today that hotel quarantine has played "a central role in protecting the population, maintaining control of the disease and enabling the safe relaxation of restrictions."
