A 22-storey apartment block planned for the old St Teresa's Gardens site in Dublin 8 is to be reduced in size.
It means more than a hundred fewer homes will be built.
Four buildings, ranging in height from two to 22 storeys, were originally planned for the site of the former flat complex in the south inner city. It was built in the 1950s but torn down in recent years as part of a regeneration project.
The Land Development Agency is redeveloping the plot on behalf of the city council with 30 per cent of the units for social housing and the rest falling under a cost rental scheme.
But according to the Irish Times, councillors have been told the tallest apartment block will be scaled back to 15 storeys from 22, following local opposition.
It means the number of homes now expected to be delivered is around 540, when 700 were originally planned.
A new public consultation is expected to be held in the coming weeks.
