The HSE says it will consider a range of options to facilitate the wishes of pregnant women during Covid-19 restrictions.

Areas such as rapid testing and exploring a partners virtual attendance, particularly for scans may be examined.

It also says improving the physical environment in the scanning department will be considered.

It follows criticism over the past couple of months of restrictions in hospitals for pregnant womens partners.

Caroline Cummings is an expectant mother, she welcomes the move as a step in the right direction:

"I really appreciate that at least the conversation has reached the right people's ears."

"They seem to be listening and they're at least trying."

"You know, I really want to see this as one step in the right direction where they're trying to think outside the box."

"All we ever asked for was that they'd discuss and acknowledge what we're asking, to try and find safe solutions for how partners can be there."

Catherine Allman is 35 weeks pregnant and due to give birth in Cork in November. She says it's insulting;

"We have solved the issue with wet pubs, we have solved the issues with restaurants, we have some how managed to figure out how to get people back into schools and universities but we still can't get people's partners, one additional person into a room" she said.

"I think setting up zoom links for doctor's appointments is actually very insulting."
