A 4-year programme to replace Dublin city's old orange street lights with LED bulbs is to begin this year.
Up to 40,000 lights will be replaced, costing more than €55 million according to the Irish Times.
Around 4,000 lighting columns or lamp stands will also be upgraded.
It's expected to result in energy savings of up to 50 per cent and will significantly reduce "sky glow". That's the orange hue around Dublin's streets.
The project will also provide a Central Management System to remotely monitor control and manage street lights in the capital.
