A prisoner is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.
It happened on Monday evening in the exercise yard.
It's understood he was attacked and stabbed in the neck.
The prisoner who is in his 30s has been under a protected regime at Mountjoy Jail because of previous threats from inmates.
He has been taken to a hospital in the city where his condition is described as serious.
Gardai say investigations are ongoing,
The Irish Prison Service says ut does not comment on individual prisoner cases.
