Dublin TD Maria Bailey lost a vote last night that could spell the end of her political career.

More than 100 people gathered in Dun Laoghaire last night to decide whether or not to review the party's general election ticket.

It came after local disquiet over Deputy Bailey, and how she handled the swing-gate controversy. She tried to sue the Dean Hotel after falling off an indoor swing at the premises, a case she later dropped.

The meeting last night heard from Deputy Bailey and her detractors, with some calling for her removal from the party ticket. A majority voted in favour of a review of the party's strategy at the election.

While it doesn't name Maria Bailey specifically, it's been taken as a clear sign members in Dun Laoghaire want her removed from the ballot.

The decision will now be considered by Fine Gael HQ. Minister Paschal Donohoe, who's director of organisation for the next election, will make the call along with the Taoiseach.
