A post-mortem will be carried out today on a baby girl who died after being attacked by a dog.
It happened in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Three-month-old Mia was rushed to hospital in Cork with injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Broadcaster with WLR Damien Tiernan says the community is finding it very hard to come to terms with that happened.
"This dog was considered a lovely little dog," he said.
"We understand Mia was in her cot upstairs and her mam and aunt were in the house downstairs".
"For some reason, the dog went upstairs and jumped onto the cot she was in."
The radio journalist says a guard described Mia's injuries as "horrendous".
Community In Shock Following Tragedy
Meanwhile, the village of Clashmore is reportedly "in shock" in the wake of the news.
Mayor of Waterford Councillor Damien Geoghegan says Mia's death is "too awful for words".
"To have such a tragedy arrive on their doorstep is very hard to comprehend".
Cllr Geoghan said the community is rallying around the family and a garda investigation is ongoing.
