Plans to limit the sale of e-scooters and bikes to over 16s are expected to be abandoned.
It's thought the rules would have been unenforceable.
The government's expected to introduce amendments to the road traffic bill, that will regulate electric scooters and bikes for the first time, removing the part that makes it an offence to supply them to under 16s.
It’s thought the plans would have been unenforceable because owners won’t have to register their scooters and there’s no requirement for people to carry ID.
Dublin Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell says most European countries have age restrictions, but transport commentator Conor Faughnan says e-scooters should be treated like bicycles.
The legislation was introduced last year but is still making its way through the Dáil.
