The National Women’s Council says plans to extend parent's leave don’t go far enough to help new mums who had a baby during lockdown.
The Government plans to give parents, who had babies after November 1st, an extra three weeks paid leave.
However, it won’t apply until next year.
Orla O’Connor from the NWC says this doesn’t help new mothers right now;
"Their access to things like medical appointments, health check-ups for themselves and their babies were all gone. I mean the announcement in itself is good because it's good to give more paid parental leave, we all want that. But it's utterly separate in terms of what the women have been looking for."
It follows a campaign by mothers who were on maternity leave during the lockdown to have their time off extended.
