A proposed €20 million euro bridge across the River Liffey is to be abandoned after permission to move it 150 metres was refused.

It's the second time An Bord Pleanála has turned down the change in location of the structure, that would have been the first dedicated cycling and walking bridge over the waterway.

Permission has been in place for the 125 metre long structure since 2014.

The city council wanted to connect New Wapping Street near the Central Bank with Blood Stoney Road on the southside after concerns the original plans would interfere with a proposed Dart Underground station.

But the planners have refused permission, preferring the original location running from the old London and North Western station at North Wall to Forbes Street.
