The DSPCA are launching a Pet Memorial Garden in Dublin this week.
It's described as "a reflective and dedicated space to remember beloved pet companions who have crossed the rainbow bridge".
The garden will offer grieving owners a space where they can remember their pet fondly.
The charity has been planning the garden for two years and is hoping that it will start a new conversation around pet grief in Ireland.
The DSPCA says it takes pet grief very seriously, and hopes this area can become a place where people honour their pets.
All donations made and money paid for plaques or trees honouring pets will be used by the charity to care for and provide safe homes for animals.
Head of Fundraising with the DSPCA said pet grief needs to be normalised.
"It's not spoken about enough and people that go through the loss of losing a beloved pet, the grief can be quite profound".
"So this space is a lovely tranquil setting, they can go and just spend time there and dedicate their tree or whatever they choose to do in memory of the pet".
At the opening on Thursday, there will be a panel of experts in pet grief who will discuss how important pets can be for mental health and how to recover after the loss.
Suzanne said the grief can be difficult to manage alone:
"Sometimes people don't like to admit that the grief can be quite profound in a lot of cases and they don't necessarily have somebody that they can talk to about it".
"But by talking to people that have gone through it and people that know and feel the pain of that loss, I think it can help".
The garden, which will have its official opening on Thursday, will be open to the public from Friday the 8th of September at the DSPCA grounds in Rathfarnham.
