A suspicious package sent to the offices of the Health Minister has been declared safe.

The Department of Health on Baggot Street was evacuated after an envelope containing a powder was delivered there this morning.

Teams from Dublin Fire Brigade and the Army Bomb Disposal Unit have tested it and say it's not a hazard.

Earlier, staff had been told to go home and that the building would "not be reopened for some time".

"Unfortunately it will not be possible for anyone to access any part of the building, including the car park and bike hall", the Department of Health said on Twitter.

Suspicious Package Alert

Dublin Fire Brigade said:

"To help us deal with the incident the road has been closed", it said.

"All resources are in place to resolve the incident. There is no danger to the public", DFB said.

"We ask the public to respect the emergency cordons".

Dublin Bus had been forced to divert a number of its routes due to the alert.

Routes 37, 38, 39 and 70 were not able to serve Baggot Street or Waterloo Road.
