Groups, including Dublin 15 School for All and FUSS Ireland, gathered under the Clery's clock on O'Connell Street in Dublin shortly after 8.30am before walking to Marlborough Street.
A group of parents had planned to enter the building to deliver names of children currently without school places.
Greg Lewis from the Equality in Education Dublin North West Campaign says he's applied to 15 secondary schools for a place for his 13 year-old son;
"It's really difficult because both myself and my wife work. Sam should be starting school on Monday and we are none the wiser about what is going to happen."
